Because this song always cheers me up

The Weathergirls, "It's Raining Men"

Context: "The Weather Girls' It's Raining Men has returned to the singles chart in a protest against comments by Ukip councillor David Silvester. With Silvester claiming that the UK's recent bad weather is a punishment for its gay marriage laws, this 1982 hit has danced all the way back into the Top 25.

Three decades after its original release, It's Raining Men sits at No 21 on the midweek singles chart, now less than 40 copies from entering No 20, according to the Official Charts Company. This is a meteoric rise for a campaign launched just over a week ago, and around 15,000 supporters have registered on the crusade's Facebook page. "

Have you come across the Shipping Forecast according to UKIP: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dqq0HcCbKzc (It is probably funnier if you know the original.)

I love that song too! I have a partly written short story called 'Rearrange the Sky' though I'm not sure whether that's actually part of the lyrics or a mondegreen.

You could not walk into a gay bar without hearing that song in the 80s...

That is a fantastic response by the British public.

He the who what now?

I BINGed David Silvester and found they'd given him the boot out of UKIP. Then I had to BING UKIP, and I have to say, given their libertarian politics he's lucky they didn't put the boot in.

I very much doubt that any Briton would describe UKIP as "libertarian". Try "racist" and "xenophobic". See the previous prominent party expulsion, of Godfrey Bloom, who did not get expelled for calling foreign parts "Bongo-Bongo land".

Aha.

Unfortunately my source for this description was Wikipedia.

I should know better. I do know better.

I have no excuse, Captain.

I know better, too, and yet Wikipedia often pulls me in.

Classiest. Rebuttal. Ever. Britain knows how to give snark with class.

ETA: Golly, I used to have a dress like the backup girls had. I used to look good in that dress, too!
