My father-in-law died about an hour ago. He was a good man, a diplomat both professionally (a Soviet specialist during the Cold War) and personally. He was a columnist for the local paper, wrote poems for his wife and children, and published a book of Christian meditations. He and his wife were happily married for 55 years; they raised four children together, who in turn are raising eight grandchildren. He had a good life and (as far as one can) a good death. We will remember him.
