That "enlightened few" bit is a heck of an excluded middle, of course. Has it never occurred to him that someone whose parents, neighbors, etc. said "you're a girl" could have thought about it and concluded that they'd been right?
I am tired of cisgendered people pretending it's an insult for someone to say "you aren't trans*." They don't want people to say "non-trans" instead of "cis": they want to be called "normal" and call trans* people "abnormal."
