Educating the public, one git at a time

Cheerful Uber driver, picking me up: "Have you had your ten thousand steps today?"
Me: "I'm disabled."
Him: "But you still need to exercise!"

Turns out he was a newly-certified personal trainer. I commented that as the disability came on, I'd been very grateful for a trainer who knew my limitations.

Cheerful driver: "You still need to do perfect reps! Just at 75% intensity!"

Very glad he's not *my* trainer.

Well, he'll be a crappy trainer. Hopefully his clients will quit before he actually hurts someone. I was so relieved to get a physical therapist so I could ask stuff like, "Is it safe for me to do this?" and trust their answer.

I'm glad you handed him a clue. Even if he didn't seem to accept it, they do pile up over time.

I really hope so. It's scary how much damage a bad trainer can do, especially when somebody is starting with an injury or a disability. I've had so many physical therapists who gave me damaging answers when I asked "Is it safe for me to do this?" that I won't trust any of them anymore.
