For once, a link that makes me feel hopeful about people

In this week's New Yorker, a story about how a daughter of the Phelps clan (of godhatesfags.com fame), an early Twitter adopter, spews hate and finds that some people are kind nonetheless, and that some debate her with respect. She winds up leaving the sect in part because she decides that if those kind people are going to Hell, her religion's teachings are dreadful.

That did make me feel better for awhile, while reading it. Along with everything about Megan's personal story, it also confirmed that the Church's power structure was, for a long time, full of very strong women, which makes me happy in a more political way.

(I mean, there's been a backlash, but that's almost to be expected.)

Interesting read, thanks. That she realized she didn't want to rejoice when Brittany Murphy died… Not the only moment of turning away, but, wow.
