Security alert: Hola
May. 31st, 2015 02:33 pmIf you're using Hola Better Internet, uninstall it now. It turns out that it turns you into a node on a VPN, and you can't control what your computer is being used to do. For instance, somebody could download material illegal in your country using Hola, and it would look like your IP was responsible. Furthermore, Hola is selling access to users' streams. Further-urthermore, Hola has a feature that lets anybody execute software on your computer.
Since a security group publicized Hola's traps, Hola has rewritten their software so that the demonstration of the traps no longer works. That doesn't mean that Hola has become any safer.
Details on Hola at http://adios-hola.org/ . I highly recommend reading through the table of contents, and then following the uninstall link. edit: If you want the full geek details, see here: http://adios-hola.org/advisory.txt
Yet again, if you aren't the purchaser, you're the product.
