I'm very pleased. The workshop is led by the author, whose valuable book has been out of print for many years (it sells for exorbitant amounts from used booksellers). I own the Kindle edition, which is unsatisfactory, and the author will be selling copies of the book at the workshop! The skill involved is tricky, and I look forward to having somebody knowledgeable there to explain what I'm doing wrong. Finally, the finished objects are beautiful. Whee!
In unrelated news, I am very pleased by the Wiki entry for http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tickle_Cock_Bridge . Every so often Dr. Bowdler loses one, and this time it's due to public protest. I found this by following the link for http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gropecunt_Lane , which turns out to have been a very popular street name dateable to at least 1230. Alas, the last instance was renamed sometime in the 16th century.

Date: 2013-11-01 07:19 pm (UTC)The Castleford Area Voice for the Elderly, an over-50s group, organised a campaign to have the name Tickle Cock restored. The group's chairman, Margaret Shillito, was quoted in the press as saying "the old plaque was wrong, it had the wrong name on and we were offended by it".
That's brilliant. Mind you, if I lived in Castleford I'd need something to give me a smile.
