On the relativity of sounds

Our bedroom and sitting-room overhear the next-door neighbor's living-room and yard. The previous neighbor was a drunk who had loud parties with lots of shouting, as well as occasional shouting fights with (I presume) his girlfriend. The new neighbor has two mid-teen girls. There is a loud giggling pool party going on under our windows. It's lovely to hear.
