Never say marriage loses its mysteries

Our master bathroom always contains three bathtowels, one on the top of the double rail and two on the bottom. Whenever I change the towels, I hang three; so does my husband. This weekend we found out that each of us thought the other needed two towels, and occasionally wondered why. As far as we can determine, the third towel got used only as an emergency handtowel.

Or maybe it was for the prophet Elijah, who knows.

Me too. It only took about twenty years of me yelling 'You have TAKEN my hair towel to clean your BIKE' down the stairs for my other half to get it.

Same! My hair is long and drippy, and if for some reason I only have one towel (visiting someone, shared hotel room with limited towels, etc) I have to awkwardly hang my head over the tub while I dry my body so I can safely use the one towel to wrap up my hair.

I bet you're right and that's how it started. I went five-ish years with short hair, but having forgotten why I originally needed two, the third towel continued its majestic progress onto our rails.

Sometimes I hear people say of a plot "this would never happen if the characters just talked to each other the way normal people do." The range of things about which normal people forget to talk to each other--from towels to feelings--is huge.

So having discovered the genesis of the third towel's presence in your bathroom, has it been removed?
