I haven't slept properly since I got the news (which was only last week because the goddamn Facebook algorithm didn't see fit to show me shezan's post). There are a couple of elegiac poems that keep coming into my mind (and I am not going to say which ones right now because the chewy literary discussion is for another time and place, at any rate I can't handle it right now), ones that are important to me but that I have really complicated reactions to. And I think they came to mind because you know who is the exact person I could explain such complicated reactions to? Legionseagle. (She is not of course the only one who could have understood. Many of you would, I am sure. Just not quite in her inimitable fashion.)

I once said to her (about five years ago, in a non-literary context) "The nearest I can figure is that some people think having a complex reaction to anything is rude," and she responded, "Now that's a formulation of the problem I'm going to remember for later. It's so true." Which was a terrific compliment.
