My natural story length is abbreviated, and so it was this year.

Yuletide Proper:
[personal profile] alchemine wrote an interesting prompt in Revengers Tragedy requesting the relationship beween the two eldest brothers; I gave her Don't Try This At Home.  Thank all the Gods, she specifically forbade any attempt at Jacobean prose, thus preventing my falling backward on a machete in the garage.

Yuletide Madness:
Midway through the last week I was stuck like a field mouse in a pecan pie, so I threw off something silly.  It became a Yuletide treat, also for [personal profile] alchemine. a Wallace Stevens crossover called  Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Movie, expressing some of my frustrations and joys about the canon.

Sometime Friday or Saturday (I forget), I looked at the prompts and decided I had to write Tough Guide to Fantasyland; hence Dear Sirs or Mesdames for [personal profile] greenlily .  It's been interesting, sociologically, watching the triggers that create treats.  (A) have lots of good friends (B) request a fandom everybody loves and/or (C) write a prompt so wacky that everybody wants to give it a go.  Rock on, octopus with the camera!  (Note:  If you haven't read the two other excellent octopus POV science fiction stories that responded to that prompt., do it now.  Also check out the nail polish drabbles over in Madness.)

Betas:
Starting to write again was frightening; I was overwhelmed by "What if I screw it up?  What if I can't actually do this?" [personal profile] violetisblue provided more moral support than could reasonably have been expected. [personal profile] legionseagle both Britpicked and betaed, printing that a critical scene demonstrated that I remembered nothing of the British pub;   My last-minute Revengers Tragedy canon beta, [personal profile] mithrigil, offered both canon-picking and substantial improvements on the stories themselves.   In particular, she suggested many missing stanzas from Thirteen Ways, while pointing out some that fell flat.  The even more pressed-for-time [personal profile] gumbie_cat  did a speedy Britpick on  Dear Sirs.   Humble thanks to all of you; without your time and effort, I'd be ashamed of these gifts.

My Yuletide Gift:
[personal profile] moontyger read my Chronicles of Elantra prompt and gave me the pitch-perfect The Way Forward.   All the characters and situations perfectly match Sagara's originals; the bonus is seeing landscape Sagara never wrote, and how it changes the characters.   And bonus, perfectly in character, female-superior bondage!

That was my Yuletide.  I am grateful to everybody who threw off fireworks of joy and talent, simply because they could.
