 Today I have:
  • Called the cable provider (twice) and negotiated a cheaper package (alas, Cinemax/Penny Dreadful would have been $20/month more, which will pay for the CD in less time than it would take to watch the show
  • Dropped off the cat at the vet for dental work
  • Made an appointment for physical therapy to re-teach me how to exercise.  (Two years in bed cause what my doctor tactfully called "deconditioning".)
That would be a productive day for somebody who hates  contact with strangers.   However,
  • The cat's dental work news is very bad.  He's resorbing the roots of his teeth, and a lot of them need pulling; one set now, and (probably) another set by a specialized kitty dentist in 6-8 months after he's healed from this round.   The vet isn't concerned about his overall health, and indeed he'll be in less pain without the worst of the teeth, but he's still going to have two sets of recuperations (and we'll have two sets of anesthesia-plus-xrays-plus-dentist visits to pay for.)
  • (related) We're going to be squirting drugs into the cat to mute the pain and prevent infections.
  • The gas oven mysteriously failed.  It's an off-brand professional-grade range that nobody in town knows anything about.   The oven-repair guy won't be here until Monday; fortunately we have a countertop convection oven with a rotisserie, which will cover whatever oven work is needed.   It's quite possible that the problem with the oven is just a pilot light, but neither my husband nor I can find it and of course there's no manual.
Tired.  Seriously tired.  A need for many martinis.  The new Weldon's  Practical Needlework that just showed up will hit the spot.

Oh, gosh. Poor cat. But glad it will eventually be over and in less pain.

I love gas ovens over electric any day, except when they are confusing and mysterious. Sigh.

Yeah, I hear you. And the worst part will be, on Monday, when the repair guy will probably find it instantly. (Unless he doesn't, in which case you get to be smug.)

*tilts head* Never had rum banana bread. Sounds gooood.

ooooooh, until you mentioned I'd forgotten martinis exist. (I get really wrapped up in work; I don't know how else to explain.)

Are you sure you even have a pilot light? A recentish gas oven should probably do electronic ignition, which can, yes, fail.

Personally, I do not find needlework and martinis interchangeable, but that may be a personal character flaw in me.

Sorry to hear about the oven and the kitty. I hope both recover quickly, but particularly the kitty.

Ugh, what a day. Much sympathy. My late beloved Kosh spent half a decade with approximately no teeth and on squirty meds for her arthritis, and had a full happy life and ruled the household: she was an almost unpillable cat, but the liquid meds were somewhat easier to deal with because she couldn't secrete them in her cheek to spit up later.
