At Google I/O, the presenter is describing all the advantages of the new Google Wear watches.
Edit: Ohgodno.
“So how do we do that? We’re using a variety of technologies to confirm that you’re in the same room as the Chromecast. If for some reason we can’t automatically detect that, you can enter an on-screen PIN”

- The watch recognizes that he usually orders a pizza each afternoon. His watch vibrates with an alert from EAT24. A few taps later, his pizza is ordered.
- He’s now walking through how Pinterest ties into Android Wear. If he walks by a restaurant that one of his friends has pinned, for example, Pinterest can pop up an alert to let him know.

Date: 2014-06-25 06:32 pm (UTC)These guys live in an echo chamber of cubicles, don't they...
ETA: Reading the liveblog, shouting "The NSA loves this!" at intervals would have been more apropos than the nutty robot line.
Running from the room screaming now

I SEE NO WAY IN WHICH THIS WILL GO HORRIBLY WRONG.
If a TV is on in an empty room, is it showing a picture?
Date: 2014-06-25 08:03 pm (UTC)It's striking how totally unnecessary these things are. I mean, a person who orders a pizza everyday is not going to forget to do so and so starve (though they might, god forbid, order some different take away for once). And yet, these functions could be incredibly useful for some people, in life-supporting ways. Just not to do with pizza. Elderly person with poor memory who needs to take an a tablet 3/4 times a day? Watch could tell you when and remind you to manage your eating around that if necessary. Vulnerable person who doesn't check in with a relative you they are supposed to? Watch could remind you, then the relative, then call the ambulance. Id love to be able to get my email calendar to say "Have you done the leavers for this month's payroll" by saying it - as I would have to set up this as an appointment, I never do. And so on.

Date: 2014-06-26 01:05 am (UTC)After last year's I/O and their chat 'upgrade' that basically broke Gchat and that they never once explained/answered questions about, I swapped my Android phone for an iphone and haven't looked back.
